Should All Wisdom Teeth Be Removed?

Not necessarily. Some wisdom teeth emerge fully and cause no problems. However, if your wisdom teeth are impacted, partially erupted, causing pain, or at risk of affecting neighboring teeth, removal is usually recommended.

We evaluate wisdom teeth with X-rays during routine checkups and will recommend removal if it is in your best interest before problems arise if possible.

Wisdom Tooth Recovery Tips

Bite on gauze pads for 30–45 minutes after the procedure
Apply ice to the cheek to reduce swelling 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off
Eat soft foods: yogurt, mashed potatoes, soup, smoothies
Do not drink through a straw for at least 24 hours this can dislodge the blood clot
Do not smoke smoking significantly increases the risk of dry socket
Rinse gently with warm salt water starting 24 hours after surgery
Take all prescribed medications as directed
