CEREC® Advantages

The CEREC Advantage

CEREC technology has transformed the way dental restorations are done bringing inlays, onlays, and crowns together in a single, efficient visit. At Lynn Dental, we use advanced CEREC technology to craft same day restorations from the most durable, high-quality ceramic materials available.

Inlays are designed to fit precisely within the tooth’s natural surface, while onlays offer broader coverage each customized to address different levels of tooth damage. When a tooth is too damaged for an inlay or onlay, a full dental crown provides complete coverage and protection. Every restoration is carefully matched to your natural tooth color, giving you a seamless result that is both strong and beautiful.

At Lynn Dental, our team is committed to preserving as much of your natural tooth structure as possible while delivering restorations that are built to last. With CEREC, our patients enjoy fast, accurate, and premium-quality dental care — all completed in one appointment.

What Does CEREC Stand For?

How the CEREC Process Works

Examination & Tooth Preparation

Your dentist begins by examining the tooth and determining the most suitable restoration whether that is a filling, inlay, onlay, or full crown based on the extent of damage and remaining healthy tooth structure. A local anesthetic is applied, and the tooth is carefully prepared by removing any decayed or weakened tissue, just as with most standard restorative procedures.

Digital Optical Impression

Instead of messy traditional impression trays, your dentist uses a small camera to take a precise digital image of your prepared tooth. The tooth is lightly coated with a safe, tasteless powder beforehand, and the entire imaging process takes only a minute or two no gagging, no discomfort.

Fabrication & Same-Day Placement

The digital image is converted into a 3D virtual model using CEREC software, and your restoration is designed right on screen. Within minutes, the design is sent wirelessly to the in-office milling unit, where a ceramic block perfectly matched to your tooth shade is carved into your custom restoration in just 10 to 20 minutes. Your dentist then fits, polishes, and bonds the finished restoration in place. No temporaries, no second appointment just a fully restored tooth in one visit.

The CEREC Acquisition Unit

The CEREC Acquisition Unit is a compact, mobile system housing a medical-grade computer and digital camera. It captures a precise digital image of your prepared tooth completely replacing the need for traditional impression trays, putty, or the discomfort that comes with them. The CEREC 3D software instantly converts this image into a detailed three-dimensional virtual model of your tooth.

Your restoration is then designed on screen in real time a process that typically takes around five minutes. The completed design is transmitted wirelessly to the milling unit, where your custom ceramic restoration is carved to exact specifications.

This system supports a full range of single-tooth restorations including crowns, inlays and onlays, fillings, and veneers.

The CEREC Milling Unit

Once the design is finalized, a ceramic block that closely matches your natural tooth shade is loaded into the milling unit. Two precision diamond-coated instruments carve the block into your custom restoration typically in 8 to 18 minutes depending on the complexity and size. After milling, the restoration is polished to a smooth, natural finish and bonded permanently into place — ready to use the same day.
